Undoing Conquest: Getting This Empire off the Back of the Turtle
Saturday, January 9, 2021
12-3pm Eastern (US+Canada).
Ashanti Alston

Join Ashanti Alston – anarchist activist, writer, prison abolitionist, former member of the Black Panther Party and Black Liberation Army for a seminar/sermon on the state of the ongoing struggle against Empire as we move into a new political year/era under generalship of PRESIDENT 46.
We will explore such ideas as conquest and ruination, living with intergenerational trauma of Maafa (African Holocaust of enslavement), Nakba (Palestinian exodus) and Shoah (genocide of Jews), and how to go on in the fight against empire in the face of survival’s guilt, political depression, rape culture, and the double-edge sword of social media.
The session will also draw on the work of abolitionist scholar Vivine Saleh-Hanna to explore the concept of Black Feminist Hauntology – a theoretical excorcism of colonial systems of control and a shape-shifting methodology for “metamorphic liberation of colonized and enslaved bodies.”
Finally, we will discuss the importance of continuing to fight for political prisoners, and the role of spiritual, ritualistic practices like Hell You talm-bout, libations, art, prayer, earth-based and goddess-based witnessing in supporting collective resistance.

Facilitator: ASHANTI OMOWALI ALSTON. Anarchist, speaker, writer, motivator. As a result of his membership in both the BPP and Black Liberation Army (BLA), he served a total of 14 years as a political prisoner and prisoner-of-war. He is currently on the Steering Committee of the National Jericho Movement to free U.S. political prisoners, and a founding board member of the Center for Grassroots Organizing in Vermont. On top of all that, he is an Elder-co-parenting two youngins’ (10 & 7) and a grandfather of a small “maroon nation.” Ashanti resides in Providence, Rhode Island.
