DESCRIPTION
Ayahuasca is a sacred drug/medicine from the Amazonian rainforest. Following the Colombian shaman Juliet Gómez, “medicine is not for the curious, but for all those who want to enter the university of higher spiritual studies, where nothing is written—everything has to be felt on the skin … Yagé medicine [ayahuasca] is liquid God. Once it enters our body, it never leaves. It stays in the form of consciousness, in your blood, your thought, your energy, your heart, your word.”
Following a brief review of psychedelic research in the case of LSD, in this open talk we will delve deeply into a personal account of ayahuasca, blurring mystical experience with a critical perspective. In this, we will encounter countless feedback loops and flashbacks with global mysticism and philosophy, keeping an eye on schizoanalysis, negative psychoanalysis and anti-psychiatry. While ayahuasca gives us deep insights into so-called “mental illness” from an insider perspective, it also makes us question the distinction between so-called “normalcy” and madness.
Three years after his initiation in Ecuador, philosopher Hannes Schumacher will share his own experiences and his ongoing research on ayahuasca, using his own field recordings and excerpts from his dialogues with writers all around the world. This seminar will also be a safe zone to exchange your own experiences with psychedelics, schizophrenia and other forms of madness. The session will not be
recorded.

Following the golden age of psychedelic research from the 1950s to the 1960s, psychedelics have been stigmatized and made illegal among many other drugs. Today, we’re witnessing a psychedelic renaissance that is just about to take off.
