Anarchist Reading Circle

Anarchist Reading Circle

Day: Thursdays, every other week beginning January 16th
Time: 6:30pm-8:30pm
Facilitator: Glenn Wallis

Contrary to its public perception as offering at best puerile reflections on society and life, classical anarchism actually produced a remarkable body of sophisticated theory. Much of this is surprisingly relevant to our contemporary world. This reading circle will begin by exploring works such as Errico Malatesta’s Anarchy, Peter Kropotkin’s Science and Anarchy, as well as works Voltairine De Cleyre, Mikhail Bakunin, Emma Goldman, and others. The four main areas that we will be concerned with are anarchist treatments of:

Value theory
Analysis and critique of society
Visions of future society
Views on strategic action

We are currently reading Peter Kropotkin’s (1842-1921) The Conquest of Bread. It’s really good shit! Join the fun!
